DOB 5/9/08, negative FeLV/FIV, microchipped. Pizza came to Challenger's House on July 18, xxxx after spending 4 days (July 14-17) at a vet clinic in Fayetteville, TN. She had been taken to Lincoln County Humane Society & relinquished to a Challenger's House volunteer who just happened to be at the shelter. The person who turned her in said that his neighbor had run over her with a car (See pics 2 & 3) - we don't know if it was an accident or on purpose. With daily water therapy & medicated bandaging, she made a remarkable recovery in about a month. Pizza was adopted 3 months after we took her in but was returned the day before Christmas xxxx. When the couple got pregnant, Pizza rebelled. Weve heard of this before where some cats are perceptive enough to know whats going on & just cant handle the prospect of a new addition. Even after 10 months (4 months before; 6 months after the baby was born) of trying everything, Pizza still wasnt happy.. After being returned she was kept separated from the other cats & had her own litterbox. Not once in 3 weeks did she ever have a problem so she would do best in a home with people who dont plan on having kids or have kids that are already part of the household. She seems to be a nice, well-mannered cat that gets along with other cats & probably would do OK with a nice dog. Pizza is back at the shelter & has been diagnosed with heart problems. She went to the veterinary cardiac specialist & diagnosis from Dr. Ingrid Straeter-Knowlen is that Pizza has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Dr. S-K said that Pizza is adoptable but will require daily medication (approx $7.00 per month) and yearly rechecks. Dr. S-K is based in Birmingham but comes to Huntsville on a regular basis so exams can be scheduled here. Yearly cost for the echocardiogram & ECG is under $350. Pizza is a very loving cat & was very well behaved during her exam. Please, no children in the household.
